The option for online registration will be available through a link that goes public on 1 April. Watch the homepage on the AFSFA website, afsfaonline.com, for the announcement that registration documents and link have gone live.
We kick off the week on Wednesday, 20 August, with a small batch tour for up to 54 folks that will include a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, a cattle drive at the Ft Worth Stockyards, lunch at the famous Riscky’s Bar-B-Q, some time at the Stockyard Station stores, and then lastly a tour and tasting at TX Whiskey Distillery. Transportation for this day is included in the price, and this tour is an optional addition to the meeting.
Then, Thursday morning offers two options, which include an early morning golf tournament or three free professional security training seminars which are worth continuing education credits. Certificates will be provided upon completion. The seminars are free to members and Defenders in the Fort Worth area. You will want to arrive on Wednesday evening for either of these events.
Members will start picking up their registration packets in front of the ballroom Thursday from 1500-1800. The Meet and Greet Social will start at 1800 will include Hors D’oeuvres and a cash bar, and will conclude at 2000.
There are Friday and Saturday morning General Membership Meetings which typically run from 0800 to 1200ish hours and are open to any paid members, spouses, and guests. Following the Friday morning session, there will be a break for lunch on your own, followed by a short bus ride to the brand-new National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, TX. Friday evening and Saturday afternoon are open with no events planned.
Our Annual Banquet is on Saturday evening and starts at 1730 with a cash bar and Memory Book photos taken; it is free to take the photos, however, there are additional charges for the book and the photos themselves. The banquet runs from 1900-2100. The evening is full of great food and unbeatable fellowship. As in recent years, the banquet will feature a local musical talent after dinner, followed by awards, inductions, and some swearing … the good kind of course!
At 0900 on Sunday, we gather and pause to remember our Fallen Defenders and then … we reluctantly say our goodbyes until the next year.
Throughout most of the meeting week, there is a hospitality room in the hotel on the second floor just as you get off the elevators for all to relax in and enjoy … also known as the “war story room” where you want to make sure you didn’t leave home without your coin! But just in case you did forget, or you want to start your Christmas shopping early, or you need something new for your “I love me wall,” the AFSFA Country Store, along with most of the chapters, will have lots of memorabilia for sale.
Hope to see you’all there!
